Making the Camel Trail Accessible for Everyone
Since 1983, Bridge Bike Hire has held a simple but powerful belief: everyone deserves to experience the joy of cycling on the Camel Trail. As the Camel Trail’s pioneer in accessible cycling, we've spent four decades ensuring that age, ability, or experience level never stand in the way of an amazing day out on the Trail!
Our Commitment to Inclusive Cycling
We're proud to be the only bike hire service on the Camel Trail that has consistently invested in accessible cycling options. Our experience has taught us that every rider is unique, which is why we offer the region's most comprehensive range of specialized bikes. From families with young children to riders with different mobility needs, we've developed solutions that bring the trail's beauty within everyone's reach.
Our Growing Family of Adaptive Bikes
We're constantly expanding our range of specialized cycles to meet diverse needs, ensuring cycling is accessible to people of all abilities. Our trained staff are experienced in supporting visitors with visual impairments, learning differences, and varying support needs. We take time to understand each person's individual requirements and provide tailored guidance to ensure everyone can enjoy the trail safely and confidently. Our current collection includes:
For Families and Shared Riding
Our range of tandems suits riders of all sizes, making cycling a shared experience that everyone can enjoy together. Perfect for parents and children, or any two riders who want to share the adventure.
For Enhanced Stability
Our adult tricycles and trailer trikes (shown above) provide extra stability and confidence for riders who prefer a more secure cycling experience. These bikes have opened up the trail to many who thought cycling might not be possible for them.
For Young Adventurers
We offer trailer bikes and trailer trikes that let children join the adventure safely while building their confidence. These have proven especially popular with families introducing young ones to the joys of cycling.
For Visitors With Sensory Sensitivities
Throughout the year there are busy and quiet periods. During the winter months the trail and the shop are quieter and you might find it more comfortable. During the summer months/school holidays it can get quite busy. You can always call us and organise to come in as soon as we open or perhaps take the option of heading out over lunchtime whilst the shop and trail are quieter. You are always welcome to call to discuss the best timings before you come and we will do out best to accommodate you.
Just Arrived and Coming Soon!
We're excited to announce two major additions to our accessible cycling family:
Wheelchair Bike
Our newest investment in accessible cycling has arrived, further expanding the trail's accessibility to wheelchair users. This specialised bike represents our ongoing commitment to breaking down barriers to cycling enjoyment. It’s a really fun ride with gear ratios that make it easy enough to peddle. Beautifully designed for a smooth ride and comfort for both rider and passenger. Please give us a call or pop in and see us as we will be happy to talk you through how to use it and make sure you are happy before booking. Find Out More About The Wheelchair Bike Here
Young Person's Trike - In Development
We're currently exploring options for a specialized young person's trike, designed to give younger riders more independence and confidence on the trail.

Essential Information For your Day on the Camel Trail
Toilets
There are accessible toilets both at the start of the trail, just yards from our shop. There are also accessible toilets situated in the car park next to the bus bays as you enter Padstow. There are no toilets or washing facilities on the 5 mile stretch between Wadebridge and Padstow. Find Camel Trail Toilets and See Maps Here and Pictures of route from us and the car park to the toilets
Gradient
The trail is flat and even if you haven’t ridden a bike in years you will enjoy a few hours on the Camel Trail, there are lots of places to stop and have a break. You can see pictures of the trail in here
Refreshments
There is a seasonal cafe about half way down the trail to Padstow, another at Wenfordbridge but they aren’t always open. It’s a great idea to pack and flask and some snacks so that you can relax and enjoy the view mid-way. The Borough Arms at Bodmin is normally open and has a great play area and beer garden. Don’t forget you can always grab a lovely picnic in Wadebridge before you leave - see our guide to Wadebridge shops here
Wheelchair Bike
We have a wheelchair you can use or we can fix your wheelchair onto the bike very simply. You will be able to wheel on and off and are locked in place during use. You might like to bring a blanket and warm clothes so make sure you are super comfortable. Find out more about the Wheelchair Bike Here
Parking
There is a council car park to the rear of Lidl providing level access to the Camel Trail and Bridge Bike Hire. See Map
We’ve also added some pictures from the Car Park to the Camel Trail to help plan and feel confident when you visit.
